I make cutting boards from the smallest cheese board up to 24”X24”X3”. They can be flat sawn, edge grain, end grain, or natural. All my boards are finished with ShopDog Turnery Board Cream, a mix of Mineral Oil or Walnut Oil and Beeswax that I make here at ShopDog. They can be made with or without feet, with or without grooves, and with or without custom engraving.
Pricing: Cutting Boards are generally priced by the Board Foot (BF), where one board foot is 12” X 12” X 1” (144 cubic inches). In increasing order of complexity the boards are
Natural boards (one single board, finished for use) are priced starting at $25/BF.
Flat grain boards are priced starting at $32/BF.
Edge grain boards are priced starting at $45/BF.
End grain boards are priced starting at $62/BF.
Specialty boards, engraved boards, boards with several types of wood, and patterned boards require quite a bit more effort and generally start at $75/BF.
Of course the price will vary upward as the rarity of the wood and additions to the board increase. These prices are based on a simple hard maple board, without feet, groove, or engraving.
Cheese boards are in a separate category as the amount of wood is sharply reduced, but the amount of labor is not. Thus they are priced by the square inch at $0.475/sq in.
This is a guideline - we will work out the price of your specific board as we mover forward in the process of designing and making it.
As a logical offshoot of cutting boards, I also make coasters in various woods.
